A More “Scientific” Approach to Making Vanilla Extract

More than just “throw some beans into alcohol”

When I started making my own vanilla extract in 2023, I was dissatisfied with the level of information available. There are many variables that can go into making vanilla extract, and very few of the sources I have found indicate they did any serious research into the subject.

My background as an IT professional and an instructor in the local community college leads me to taking a more scientific approach to the subject, and that is my goal here. We will brew batches with specific ingredients for specific lengths of time and try to create taste tests to objectively grade the quality of the product.
